Getting Ready to Use Generative Ai in the Classroom

It is good practice to consider and answer the following questions before using Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in the classroom  

Syllabus 

What changes do I need to make to my course syllabus to allow effective use of GenAI in my course? 

Course Content 

  • What is the content to be covered in this course? 
  • Which content best lends itself to the use of GenAI? Why? 
  • What level of proficiency is the course content? How will I scaffold the course content for the learners? 
  • What level of proficiency with GenAI is required? How will I scaffold the use of GenAI? 

Assessments 

  • Given the reality of a world with GenAI, what will I assess my learners on?  
  • How will I assess the learners understanding of the content? 
  • How will I assess the learners understanding and use of GenAI   

Appropriate Use 

  • What do I consider appropriate use of GenAI? 
  • What do I consider inappropriate use of GenAI? 
  • How will I describe this to my students? 
  • What steps will I take if I feel there has been a breach of integrity?
