Following their appearance on the Alice Street <\/em>panel at KDocsFF 2022, Chilean studio painter\/Oakland artist Pancho Pescador<\/strong>, Chicago-born aerosol artist Desi Mundo<\/strong>, and KPU Arts Artist and Writer-in-Residence Brandon Gabriel<\/strong> formed an enduring creative collaboration. The trio\u2014in association with their KDocsFF co-panelists, anti-poverty advocate Jean Swanson and Alice Street<\/em> director Spencer Wilkinson\u2014is now set to paint a mural on the Downtown Eastside for the Vancouver Mural Festival in August. The mural\u2019s potential location is on the Bruce Eriksen Building at the heart of community: Main and Hastings. In the meantime, the KDocsFF Alice Street<\/em> Legacy Group<\/strong> is reuniting at KDocsFF 2023 on February 26th for an encore screening and discussion of Alice Street<\/em> + Jean Swanson: We Need a New Map. <\/em>During their return engagement, Desi, Pancho, and Brandon plan to paint a mural on the KPU Surrey campus. The mural will have a Coast Salish background with a series of images layered on top. It will pay tribute to KPU\u2019s Indigenous peoples, cultural diversity, and inclusivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our muralists will be painting live in the first-floor Fir Lounge, February 15-17, February 23-28, and March 1-3. All members of the KPU community are invited to stop by to observe Desi, Pancho, and Brandon engaged in their creative process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
