{"id":275,"date":"2023-03-14T09:57:32","date_gmt":"2023-03-14T16:57:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.wordpress.kpu.ca\/indigenousstudiesblog\/?p=275"},"modified":"2023-03-14T09:57:32","modified_gmt":"2023-03-14T16:57:32","slug":"trans-day-of-visibility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.wordpress.kpu.ca\/indigenousstudiesblog\/2023\/03\/14\/trans-day-of-visibility\/","title":{"rendered":"Trans Day of Visibility"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Join the KPU Pride Advocacy Group&#8217;s celebration of Trans Day of Visibility (a few days early) as we welcome KPU Indigenous Artist-in Residence \u00c1&#8217;a:l\u00edya Warbus (St\u00f3:l\u014d) and Knowledge Keeper and Elder-in-Training Saylesh Wesley (Coast Salish and Tsimshian) to KPU for a special event.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>We will first present \u00c1&#8217;a:l\u00edya&#8217;s short, unreleased documentary Slh\u00e1:l\u00ed\/Woman, completed in partial fulfillment of her 2022 MFA in Film Production at UBC, which witnesses Saylesh&#8217;s Sqw\u00e9lqwel\/story as a trans\/&#8221;twin-spirited&#8221; woman who broke ground to confront and reshape understandings of gender in her St\u00f3:l\u014d community.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Then we will invite \u00c1&#8217;a:l\u00edya and Saylesh into conversation with the audience about their experiences, both of making the film and living its story.
