Privacy and Records: A Primer for Faculty

Instructors collect and work with a lot of student “Personal Information” and many types of “records”.  KPU (and its employees) have legal requirements, as well as other responsibilities, in relation to both.  During this session, we will discuss what Personal Information is and how the information faculty members encounter in their teaching roles can lead to different kinds of records. This session will help faculty members understand their legal requirements and responsibilities, and create good habits that will protect privacy and manage records appropriately. Presented by Shelly Kean, Manager, Information Access and Privacy and Beverly Braaten, Manager, Records and Information Management.

Through engaging in the activities and content of this workshop, you have the opportunity to
1. Recognize ‘personal information” involved in participants work with students
2. Understand legal requirements related to personal information
3. Understand what Records Management and Information Management are, and how they relate to each other in the Information Lifecycle.
