DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the Academic Integrity Office \nREGISTER HERE \nMonday\, March 24\, 12:00-1:00PM \nTeaching and assessing have become increasingly complex with the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) apps and tools that students can access freely or at a low cost. Our understandings of how to engage with students in ways that are meaningful and ethical continue to change. Join us for a thought-provoking and interactive session on how GenAI apps such as ChatGPT and other tools are impacting teaching\, learning\, assessment\, and academic integrity with Dr. Sarah Elaine Eaton. We will also consider how GenAI tools can serve as an equity accelerator in terms of helping students with diverse learning needs. Dr. Eaton believe that there can be no integrity without equity\, and thinking about how GenAI tools can catalyze inclusion and accessibility is an important part of the conversation. \nConsiderations for how artificial intelligence is developing and what to expect in the next few years is part of the conversation. Except some of what it produces is total crap. In this talk\, I explore how I figured out that ChatGPT was lying to me. I argue that as students\, educators\, and researchers in this so-called “post-truth era\,” when b*llshit is cogent and rhetoric and ideology compel more than data and evidence\, we must find ways to grow and teach skills in the detection of BS. This is not just about technology. It’s about the fight for the right to skills of critical thinking in the heaping information garbage pile we inhabit.
