{"id":165,"date":"2023-12-05T15:04:51","date_gmt":"2023-12-05T23:04:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.wordpress.kpu.ca\/tlworkshops\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=165"},"modified":"2023-12-05T15:04:51","modified_gmt":"2023-12-05T23:04:51","slug":"decoding-the-disciplines-helping-students-move-beyond-learning-bottlenecks","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/dev.wordpress.kpu.ca\/tlworkshops\/event\/decoding-the-disciplines-helping-students-move-beyond-learning-bottlenecks\/","title":{"rendered":"Decoding the disciplines: Helping students move beyond learning bottlenecks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ewa-rteLine\">University students are generally new to a field of study and can find themselves overloaded, overwhelmed and frequently stuck in their coursework.<\/div>\n<div class=\"ewa-rteLine\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ewa-rteLine\">However skilled or knowledgeable an educator may be in their subject area or pedagogical approaches, it can be difficult to pinpoint why learners are getting stuck, resulting in frustration and ongoing issues for both the educator and the learners.<\/div>\n<div class=\"ewa-rteLine\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ewa-rteLine\">Decoding the Disciplines is an approach that can be used to unpack \u201cbottlenecks in student learning\u201d.<\/div>\n<div class=\"ewa-rteLine\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ewa-rteLine\">In this 90-minute online workshop, KPU educators are supported in identifying a particular place in their course(s) where students are getting stuck; and considering why students might be getting stuck; by engaging in cross-disciplinary dialogue.<\/div>\n<div class=\"ewa-rteLine\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ewa-rteLine\">Being explicit about the nature of the &#8220;bottleneck\u201d and focusing on the tasks or activities that students cannot carry out will allow for an opportunity to unpack the problem and consider what teaching and learning processes could support students in getting unstuck.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tlevents.kpu.ca\/mod\/booking\/view.php?id=9426&amp;action=showonlyone&amp;whichview=showonlyone&amp;optionid=390\">Register here<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>University students are generally new to a field of study and can find themselves overloaded, overwhelmed and frequently stuck in their coursework.
