Academic ableism is a pervasive yet often unrecognized issue in educational contexts.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this two-hour workshop, faculty will gain an understanding of academic ableism, including its definitions, the ways it shows up in the classroom, and how it impacts students with disabilities negatively.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Faculty will leave this workshop better equipped to identify and challenge ableist practices and create a more inclusive and equitable learning environment.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Learning outcomes:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Define academic ableism<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Recognize common ableist practices and attitudes\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Consider the impact of academic ableism on students with disabilities<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Reflect on ableism in context\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Discuss strategies to mitigate academic ableism, eliminate barriers and provide more equitable learning experiences<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
