Priorities<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

KPU Wild Spaces is an experiential, interdisciplinary teaching and learning hub. Its focus is on place-based learning, supporting knowledge of one\u2019s self and community through the exploration of natural spaces around KPU Surrey.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can we go about repairing the world? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Wild Spaces, accessibility is a priority. Experiential learning in natural spaces can mitigate many barriers present in traditional educational settings, but it can also present new ones. It affords us the opportunity to examine our biases, thresh apart ableist leanings, and surprise ourselves when some barriers disappear altogether. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our priority is to design teaching and learning experiences intentionally, in accordance with principles of inclusive practice and flexibility. KPU Wild Spaces offers the opportunity to move beyond considering traditional barriers in alternate settings. We aim to consider accessibility in an entirely new light, in embracing the strength of our diversity and in creating community, exploring our accountability to the land and to each other.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Potential Barriers <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a number of barriers that can lie in experiential, place-based learning environments such as: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Mobility access <\/li>
  • Financial <\/li>
  • Preparedness <\/li>
  • Student awareness <\/li>
  • Time commitment <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    KPU Wild Spaces is committed to proactive inquiry and planning around access needs, to open and supportive communication around barriers, and to receiving feedback about those barriers and pathways to mitigation.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
